Both proponents and critics of the new league formula admit one thing: that there is great suspense until the 90th minute of the last game. Only on Saturday night, in fact, the names of the teams that will accompany Basel to the various European competitions (better in the preliminaries) next season will be known.
ALL OPEN EXCEPT THE TITLE
Anything can still happen with Servette (62 points) and YB (60) playing for second and third place. While to occupy the fourth to sixth seats, Lugano (53), Lausanne and Basel (52) are in contention.
SATURDAY AT 6 P.M. LUGANO-YB
The decisions will therefore fall on day 38, which will see Lugano-Young Boys, Basel-Lucerne and Servette-Lausanne facing each other on Saturday at 6 p.m. In the event of a tie on points, the goal difference favorable for the moment to YB (+11) ahead of Servette (+9), Lausanne (+8), Lucerne (+6) and Lugano (-3) will take precedence.
37 AWAY GAMES
About rosters and games played. Lugano has the absolute record of matches played away in the same season. In fact, there have been 37 if one also considers the various European cups all played away from Cornaredo. It is as if Croci-Torti's team had played an entire championship only away!
RARELY WITHOUT WINNERS
On Sunday in Lausanne, the HCL players drew a very important match for the purposes of the standings. And to say that a draw is a result that rarely comes out "on the wheel" of challenges with the Vaudois. In the last ten years out of 24 clashes only two have ended without winners or losers, and both in Cornaredo (2016 and 2020).
IN 2014 THE LAST DRAW IN LS
To find the last draw in Lausanne (it was played at the legendary Pontaise) we have to go back to September 19, 2014: it ended 1-1 with Basic's goal for the Bianconeri and Ianu's equalizer. Note that on the field were Bottani on one side and Custodio on the other.
35 CAREER PENALTIES FOR GRGIC
Sunday's match saw Anto Grgic net his ninth penalty out of nine kicked this season. One was converted by Steffen against Lucerne while the 11th awarded to the Ticinese was missed by Vladi in Bern. In his career Grgic has converted 35 chances from the penalty spot. He has missed only four, all in a Sion jersey.
LESS BALL POSSESSION
At the Stade de la Tuilère for the third time in this championship Lugano did not get the better of the ball possession: which saw the hosts finish with 52%. Passes were almost identical (406 to 407) with more accuracy from Custodio and partners (80% to 78%).
MORE CONCLUSIONS THAN THE VAUDOIS
In shots on goal Lausanne also manifested some supremacy with 17 to 6. Six against three conclusions in the mirror of the opponent's goal. Corner kicks 11-2 always in favor of Magnin's boys.
BALANCE IN CONTRASTS
In the contrasts there was some balance. On the ground the Lausanneans won more (26-22) while in aerial duels Koutsias and co. did better (14-11).
THREE YELLOWS TO THE BIANCONERI
Finally, 10 fouls were whistled against the Ticinese and 8 to the detriment of the Romans, who were not cautioned while three Lugano players (Doumbia, Marques and Bottani, on the bench) were sanctioned with yellow.
