FC Lugano Femminile's fourteenth fixture of the season ended with a narrow 1-2 defeat at the expense of Étoile Carouge, the third force in the cadet category with ambitions of getting a pass to the tournament to be promoted to the elite of the Red Swiss ball.
PHOTOCOPY OF PREVIOUS SCHLIEREN MATCH
If seven days earlier the girls had bowed out in the away game to Schlieren as a result of two defensive lapses, this occasion was no different and was a photocopy of the challenge on Tigurine soil. Eleonora Castellani and her teammates dominated the match, committed two mistakes and the Genevrine punished punctually with their captain Elodie Policarpo, scoring in quick succession (at 15′ and 23′). After the "one-two," the hosts reactivated and created one opportunity after another to get back into the game. The return from the locker room is determined and with the right attitude. This way, the halving of the score is recorded with Anaïs Fragnito (50′). Chances follow one another and at the end of the match no less than ten will be counted on the Ticino's account. No other seal will be registered and the Romande expel the South of the Alps.
UNCHANGED RANKING AND NEXT ROUND
As a result of this ninth setback, the HCL women remain, with 11 points won, at the tenth and last rank of a ranking that sees them always preceded by Wil (one length away and beaten in Friday's advance by Schlieren). The Oerlikon/Polizei (victorious 2-0 over Solothurn) joins the very opponents of the day at 15, distancing themselves from the lower ranks. The next opportunity to increase the haul will come on Saturday, March 8, 2025, when they will once again take to the friendly turf of Field F starting at 6:30 p.m. to face the Zurich-based Winterthur.
COACH FRANSIOLI'S ANALYSIS: "LET'S GET RID OF THE DOUBTS THAT ASSAIL US"
"Beyond the result, I am proud of my players. I absolutely believe in salvation. However, we must remove those doubts that assail us. In the girls I saw the desperation and madness that I asked for. I am sure at 100% that we will do something more. It may be rhetoric, but now against Winterthur we have to win and bring hay with full stakes".
