For the second year, the Swiss champion title and the other places in the European Cups will be awarded at the end of a final round of five matches each. While five more days will decide the team relegated to the Challenge League and the one that will play a play-off against the second in the cadet league.
MAYBE FIVE PLACES FOR EUROPE
The clubs that qualified for the Championship Group are: Basel 61 points and goal difference of plus 40, Servette 55 (+9), YB 53 (+7), Lucerne 51 (+10), Lugano 49 (+1) and Lausanne 47 (+8). The top four will participate in the various continental tournaments, which will become five should Basel win the Swiss Cup final, which will see it oppose Biel on June 1.
LUCERNE-LUGANO SUNDAY 4:30 P.M.
The first to take the field-Saturday, May 3 at 8:30 p.m.-will be Lausanne and YB. The other two matches namely Lucerne-Lugano and Basel-Servette will be played the following day at 4:30 pm.
INTRACTABLE AT SWISSPORARENA
The Lucerne team, which last year finished seventh in the regular season and was not entitled to participate in the final round for the title (as well as Basel and Lausanne), starts with justified ambitions. Especially at the Swissporarena, Dorn and his teammates have always made themselves respected. Suffice it to say that in 2025 they suffered no defeats, overcoming Zurich, St. Gallen, Winterthur, and YB in that order. With St. Gallen and Basel there was division of the mail.
ONLY THREE LOSSES AT HOME
At home (where they averaged 12,055 spectators) the Central Swiss suffered only three defeats. Against Servette on the first day, with Yverdon in October and with Lugano on December 7 (round number 17). That match ended 4-1 with goals from Grgic (penalty shot), Belhadj, Steffen and Bottani.
IN CORNAREDO ONE SUCCESS EACH
In the other two season challenges, played in Cornaredo, there was one win on each side. On the fourth day, the Lucernese won 3-2: Mahou, Dorn, Vladi and Klidje's double at 74′ and 89′. While in February it was the Croci-Toerti boys who collected the three points. Two to zero with goals by Cimignani and Belhadj.
CHALLENGES ALWAYS BALANCED
Since 2015 in the league there have been 38 direct clashes with 15 wins on each side and 8 draws. Even in matches played in Lucerne alone, the balance is balanced with 7 wins each to 5 draws.
FRICK: 5 WINS AND 7 LOSSES
Mario Frick (in whom, according to journalistic rumors, a second Bundesliga club is interested) has been sitting on the Lucerne bench for several seasons. With him the team has won 40 games, drawn 30 and come out beaten on 37 occasions. Against Lugano, the Liechtenstein-born coach has five wins, as many draws and seven defeats to his credit.
13 COACHES' INTERSECTIONS
His and Mattia Croci-Torti's paths crossed at 13 rounds with 6 wins by the Ticinese, 3 draws and 4 victories by Frick.
KLIDJE BEST SCORER
Lucerne's top scorer is Thibault Klidje, from Bordeaux, with 10 goals. The Togo national is suffering from muscle problems and is unlikely to be fielded in Sunday's challenge. The other goleaders are Rrudhani on loan from YB (9 goals), Villiger (7), Grbic (6) and Spadanuda (4).
